Walking Through Valleys

Psalm 23
"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,

Anticipating today to be a difficult one as we celebrate my father's life and legacy and take him to his final resting place, I also anticipate my Heavenly Father to be by my side every step of the day and if I should need Him to, He will catch every tear I shed. It is comforting to know that I do not have to walk this journey alone.  God is with me, just as He is with my Father.  This gives me a calm and peace that helps me and when others have asked, "I don't know how people get through this without God?" I am blessed to say I don't know the answer to that question but would want to tell others they don't have to be alone.  God is right there for them, catching their tears, too, carrying them through their dark nights and valleys, also.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 

Potter's Hands

This song came to mind this evening as a result of God Orchestrating dinner on my behalf.  You may be asking yourself how do the two events relate.  Let me explain.

Since the passing of my father, I have had cough, sore throat and head cold that will not go away despite taking medication, eating cough drops like candy and drinking cold bottles of water as if I were in the desert all to no avail.  All the while I have been asked by multiple friends if there is anything they can do for me during this time of grief.  I thank them politely and respond with "I can't think of anything."  

Then this afternoon as I was about to meet a friend for lunch another friend approached me and expressed her sympathy and asked if there was anything I needed.  I said probably but I have such a hard time asking for help.  Then she said, "You know where to find me."  This friend goes to my church and I realized the Lord was telling me I need Him.  And more than that, I know where to find Him and all I need to do is ask.  I needed to quit being so polite and acting as if I had it all together and be willing to ask for help, that is what the body of Christ is there for.  

Finally, I decided to call my church and express my need.  I was sick, I was tired and all of this on top of planning my father's funeral at the end of the day I was emotionally spent and would just look inside my refrigerator or pantry trying to find the desire to cook something.  I could use a meal or two during this time.  I didn't realize how hard it was for me to admit I needed help. While I was asking for the help, I even tried to take it back and say never mind I didn't want to put anyone out. But the person on the other end would hear of it and insisted on calling my Sunday School teacher to see about setting up a few meals.  This is where the Potter's Hands comes in.  God is so good. 

My Sunday School teacher called later that afternoon and could hear the hoarseness in my voice and asked what I felt like for dinner.  He said he wasn't a great cook so he was going to pick something up and did I have a preference.  I said no.  He asked if soup sounded good and I said YES!  I had been thinking about soup all day and had some for lunch even. He then asked if I would like Egg Drop Soup from a Chinese restaurant in town that just so happens to be my favorite place to get Egg Drop Soup when I am sick and the very thing my own father used to do for me when I was sick. I said I would love the soup.  It was perfect, exactly what I needed.  And it was.  He then asked if I'd like the crackers with it and maybe Crab Rangoons; all of the things my own father would bring to me when I was sick.

God is so good to orchestrate every detail of our lives if we will let Him.  He has good gifts He wants to give us.  He is waiting for us to ask Him.

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!" Matthew 7:11 (NKJV)

Today

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."

I received a phone call last night from one of my father's oldest friends and one he had lost touch with. He had read my father's obituary in the newspaper in our home state.  He searched out my phone number and called to give his condolences.  We had met only one time before in a chance encounter when I had been working just out of college and he came to make a repair call on a piece of equipment at my place of employment.  As we talked, he recognized my last name and I recognized his name and he asked if I was the daughter of his old friend.  I assured him I was and we talked briefly then making connection with a face to the name of my father's boyhood friend.  They had grown up across the street from one another from the time they were about 4 years old until they both joined the military during Viet Nam.  They were true friends.  They played together and got in trouble together.

My father had told me stories of their growing up together but it was so nice to hear the stories from the other point of view and how similarly they synced up.  My father's friend told me how they were in cub scouts together and would ride their bicycles everywhere. He even told me how they joined the military together.

He remembered having backyard barbecues with his family and inviting my father and grandmother over, as she was a single parent by then, and she would make "Orange Chicken" a recipe he could never get quite right all these years.  I gave him the "secret" ingredient and it felt like my grandmother would approve.   I told him that my father had lung cancer with metastatic brain cancer and that near the end of his life he tried to reach out to his old friends he had lost touch with.  Friendship and leaving a legacy were all that seemed to matter to my father in the end.  He would have really enjoyed the conversation with his friend, but I know God Orchestrates everything for a reason and perhaps that conversation was for me or for his friend.  Only The Lord knows for sure.

While my father and his friend went to different churches growing up, it was evident in our conversation we both had a deep faith and he was so very happy to know our family had the blessed assurance that my father was with the Lord. We ended our conversation with him saying a prayer for me, my family and the knowledge that my father was now in heaven with Jesus where he suffered no more.

One thing I have learned through loving my father through his dying process is to not wait, Love Each Day Without Regrets.  Life is too short and you never know when you go to make that phone call if the person will be there to take it.  Make the call today.  Tell the person you love today. Take the time to go to lunch with the friend today.  Do the thing you have been putting off today.

"but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: 'Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.'"  Hebrews 3:13-16
  

God's Cross

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation...and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near." Ephesians 2:13-17 (NKJV)

In the previous post, "God's Sign" I found the Cross.  The word dates back before the 12^th century and comes from Middle English, from Old English, from Old Norse or Old Irish; Old Norse kross, from Old Irish cros, from Latin cruc-, crux.

Right there with the first definition, God’s Orchestra pointed me to Jesus!  That’s what He was saying, “show them the signs.”  They all point to Jesus.  Take the time and look for them and share them with others.

God's Sign

"Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."  Isaiah 1:18 (NIV)

In the post titled "His Design" I continued to define God's Orchestra using Merriam-Webster's Dictionary. From the definition of 'design' I could see the emphasis on the word sign. When I replaced 'design' with 'sign' God’s Orchestra became God's Sign. 

This revelation reinforces the my very first notion that God's Orchestra is all around us.  The people in our lives; every conversation we have; the books we read; the songs we sing; every action we take; they are all individual notes within God’s Orchestra.  Your body is your instrument; your life is your opus. “...for in Him we live and move and have our being...” Acts 17:28 (NKJV)

The word sign dates back to the 13^th century and has it’s etymology in Middle English, from Middle French signer; from Latin signare to mark, sign, seal, from signum.

And the very first entry for sign was 'cross'.  Before I went to look up the definition of cross, I knew what I would find.  WOW!  Right there in the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, God’s Orchestra pointed me to the Cross.   Replacing 'sign' with 'cross' I now have God’s Cross! 

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)

His Design

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."  Isaiah 43:19

In a previous post "His Plan"I continued to define God's Orchestra using Merriam-Webster's Dictionary. From the definition of 'plan' I could see the emphasis on the word design. So following my earlier notion, I replaced 'plan' with 'design' and I have God’s Design.

The word design can be traced back to the 14th century, finding it’s etymology from Middle English, to outline, indicate, mean; from Middle French designer to designate; from Medieval Latin designare; from Latin, to mark out, from de- + signare to mark.

While reading the definitions for design, I noted the third entry was archaic in meaning and my attention was drawn to the word sign.  “Show them the signs” this is how it all started out!  

My heart began to race as God's Orchestra started to reveal itself.  I replaced the word 'design' with 'sign' and God's Orchestra becomes God’s Sign.

Make A Joyful Noise

"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." I Peter 4:10 (NKJV)

"For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness."

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;" Ephesians 4:11-13 (NKJV)

One of your purposes in God's Orchestra is to edify, or build one another up, through the use of your instrument with your gifts. If you don't use yours, why not? Is there an area where you can serve? Can you pray about how/where to serve? Look around at the ministries in your local church, where can your gifts best be utilized.

Do you know what your gifts are? The Lord invites you to call upon Him.

He encourages His children to ask for good gifts.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."
Matthew 7:7-12 (NKJV).

When you know your gifts and how to use your instrument to edify one another, you are able to show Christ-likeness to one another.
"for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)

And as a church, we will see the reality of God's word, "For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:27 (NKJV)

Once you see Him at work through you, the way you work for the Kingdom will never be the same.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."
Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)

His Plan

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

In a previous post "Arrangement" I continued to try and define God's Orchestra using Merriam-Webster's Dictionary. From this definition, I could see the emphasis on the word 'plan,' so following the earlier notion, I replaced 'arrange' with 'plan' and I have God’s Plan.

Now, I really think we are getting somewhere, but can it really be this simple? Would I find the meaning of God’s Orchestra, His Plan, in the dictionary?

I looked up the definition of the word plan, a noun circa 1706, which has it’s etymology from French, plane, foundation, ground plan; partly from Latin planum level ground, from neuter of planus level; partly from French planter to plant, fix in place, from Late Latin plantare.

Concerning the third definition, I noted 'plan' to be “an orderly arrangement of parts of an overall design or objective.” The word arrangement caught my attention as well as the word design.

"For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." I Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV)  God is an orderly God. So, I replaced plan with design and found God’s Design. 

He certainly is up to something and I am on the edge of my seat!

Happy Birthday

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;

How do you celebrate your birthday? Do you send invitations, order balloons, cake and ice cream? What is your favorite part about the day? Do you spend time with family and friends? What about presents? Do you look forward to packages wrapped in pretty paper?

Everyday is like your birthday with The Lord and He wants to daily bless you.  Do you see how He blesses you with gifts?  Are you willing to look for them?  When you receive them, do you acknowledge their source?

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! Selah"

Arrangement

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

In a previous blog post “His Ways” I began to define God’s Orchestra using Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary.  While I didn’t have any clearer understanding of the meaning of God’s Orchestra, I found a clue which gave a direction to follow.  The definition of orchestra emphasized the word arrange, so the next logical step was to look up the definition of arrange and for the sake of defining His Orchestra, I will replace ‘orchestra’ with ‘arrange’ and God’s Orchestra becomes God’s Arrange.

Arrange is a verb, circa 1789, with it’s etymology from Middle English arangen; and from Middle French arangier; from Old French, from a- + rengier to set in a row, and from reng, which means row.

From the definition of arrange, I could see the emphasis on the word plan.  So following my earlier notion and replacing arrange with plan, God’s Arrange becomes God’s Plan.  

Now, I think we are getting somewhere, but can it really be this simple?  Would I find the meaning of God’s Orchestra, His Plan, in the dictionary? 

The definition of arrange shows me that God’s Orchestra can be defined, in part, when we allow Him to arrange the details of our life.  

When we allow God to direct our life, He will take our cacophonous circumstances and create a melodious arrangement for our good and His Glory.

In Word or Deed

"Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing."
I Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul exhorted the Thessalonians to continue "just as you are doing." What are you doing to support your neighbor; your fellow Christian?

Are any among you hurting, sick or in need of encouragement?
If the way you are treating them is anything other than a loving and positive response to Paul's directive to comfort and edify, can you honestly say "...whatever you do in word or deed, [you] do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Colossians 3:17 NKJV)?

Heavenly Father, show us where and how to extend the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters. Give us eyes to see the pain we inadvertently cause when we continue to focus on, or judge, their past instead of celebrating their mercy-filled present with you. May Your will be done, In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Read Between The Lines

"...looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls." - Hebrews 12:2-3 (NKJV)

Have you ever felt cold with the sun on your face?

Ever feel alone in a crowded place?

The pain inside,

You never fully can hide.

The past is always there

To haunt without a care...

Have you ever felt as though no one understood you?  As if you were all alone in a situation?  Perhaps the circumstances of life have left you feeling like no one has your back.  When you feel this way what are you focusing on?  Are you dwelling on your problems, stressors and worries? Or, are you able to change your perspective and view your situation differently?

We have all felt lonely at one point or another, but none of us have ever felt as lonely as Jesus must have felt on the cross the night He freely gave His life for us.  Feeling forsaken by His Father, the profound loss He experienced was expressed in agony as He cried out, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"(Matthew 27:46).

If He freely remained on the cross for you and I, despite the loneliness, loss, betrayal, hurt and confusion then we should be able to look to Him when our emotions run parallel.   Remember where to keep your focus when you are feeling lonely, for it is in the midst of your circumstances that you find Jesus and realize you were never alone.

His Ways

     You are God’s song.  As His people, we are called to be a praise and an honor before all the nations of the earth, by telling of all the good he has done unto us. 

“Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.”  - Jeremiah 33:9

   

     David repeated over and over in Psalms to sing unto the Lord for the marvelous things he has done,

“Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.” - Psalms 98:1

     We are to make a joyful noise unto the lord.

“Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!”  - Psalms 100:1

  

     As I prayed about the meaning of God’s Orchestra, and how to define it, I was led to look up the definition of orchestra.  According to Merriam-Webster OnLine, the word orchestra, a noun, was first used in 1606, well after the Bible was written, but it’s etymology is Latin; and from Greek orchestra; and orcheisthai to dance; 

"or·ches·tra, 1 a : the circular space used by the chorus in front of the proscenium in an ancient Greek theater b : a corresponding semicircular space in a Roman theater used for seating important persons
2 a : the space in front of the stage in a modern theater that is used by an orchestra b : the forward section of seats on the main floor of a theater c : the main floor of a theater
3 : a group of musicians including especially string players organized to perform ensemble music."

     For this discourse, I would like to focus our attention to the third definition.  God’s Orchestra could then be described as “a group of musicians including especially string players organized to perform ensemble music”.  Since orchestra is a noun, I needed the verb, which would describe the ‘how to’ of God’s Orchestra.  

The word orchestrate, a transitive verb, found it’s beginning around 1880 and is derived from orchestra. 

"or·ches·trate, -trat·ed; -trat·ing, 1 a : to compose or arrange (music) for an orchestra b : to provide with orchestration <orchestrate a ballet>
2 : to arrange or combine so as to achieve a desired or maximum effect <orchestrated preparations for the banquet> - or·ches·tra·tor also or·ches·trat·er, noun."

From this definition we can see the emphasis on the word arrange.  

While we may not understand how God arranges His Orchestra, we can choose to trust Him enough to play our instrument in God's Orchestra.

Waiting On The Lord

"I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech." Psalm 17:6

"Lord, hear my cry," I asked of Him who is Faithful to hear and answer. "What would you have me do in this particular situation?"
Specifically, I wanted to know whether it was His will for me to be involved with a particular ministry. To assist through prayer, finances or service. Through prayer, reading His word and even asking friends to pray with and for me, my pleas with The Lord to "let us reason together" (Isaiah 1:18) went unanswered.
It seemed the the more I asked, the less I heard. While waiting for guidance on the matter, I finally realized the absence of an answer is sometimes the answer itself...wait longer.
You see, we are not the only ones waiting, The Lord is waiting on us. His timing is perfect. God is good to open the doors He desires for us to walk through as He orchestrates every detail. And He is as equally good to close the doors He does not want us to walk through (Revelation 3:7) but we have to wait on Him and His timing.

"Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him." Isaiah 30:18

Peace

 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” - 1 Peter 3:15

     While waiting to pick up my daughter from school one day, I had the opportunity to visit with one of her teachers.  During our conversation, she very passionately brought up the topic of the economy and asked me how I felt about it.  I told her that if I were to listen to the media reports I would be nervous; but that I was not.  Puzzled, she asked why not.

     Immediately the Holy Spirit brought to mind Matthew 6:31,“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’”

     “I have peace.” I replied and then continued to tell her “the Bible says that we are to take no thought about what to eat or what to drink or what to wear.”    

     She quickly changed the subject back to the state of the economy but the Lord reminded me of the verse found in Philippians 4:7, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” which is why I had a ready answer for her question on the economy. 

His Mighty Power

As His instrument, we are reminded that is with "His mighty power" that we accomplish anything.

He is Risen!

"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said." Matthew 28:6  

This is the cornerstone to our faith.  

Jesus was crucified on a cross, buried in a tomb and rose on the third day. 

Jesus is the lead instrument in God's Orchestra, so to speak.   It is through His sacrifice that we are all afforded eternal life.  

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  John 3:16

There Are No Coincidences

The title of this entry, “There Are No Coincidences,” was selected after a conversation I had with a friend. He had been convinced after conversations with others and science journals on the inner workings of the brain, that what I deem as an ‘Orchestration of God’ is a coincidence. 

My position is if it is only a coincidence, and he believes in God (which he says he does) then refusing to see God at work in the situation is the same as not believing in God at all. It is written, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” 

What differentiates a person who says in his heart “There is a God” from one who says in his heart “There is no God?” This question, I believe, is the core of the difference in being able to see “God’s Orchestra” at work versus not and labeling unexplainable or random series of events as coincidences.

The differentiating factor is faith.  As it is written, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This has to be done with the heart, not the head/brain.  By trusting in the creator of the Universe. The God who is bigger than you. The God who made you, loved you and sent His son to die for you; Jesus.   

By trusting your own thoughts on a topic (like a coincidence), another person or scientific journal, you are putting faith and trust in your understanding or that of someone else; not God. 

Bottom Line: Your trust is not in God. If you are not trusting God: your faith is not in God.  

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.”  Proverbs 3:5-7 (NKJV)

Postscript: 

This article came about as a result of my having read Psalms 14(see below), four days ago.  

The next day, I met a young man at a restaurant.  During our conversation, a woman came in and made a remark on the exact topic we had been having before her entrance. 

After she left, the young man exclaimed, “How weird, we were just talking about that!”  

I told him, “That is not weird, God Orchestrated it.”   

Immediately, he uttered, “Let’s not go there.” I asked if he believed in God and he said he did not. He said he was a good person and did good works. 

For the next several days, articles on my social media news feed and national television news programs featured atheists. Coincidence, or God wanting to reveal Himself to men?  

 Psalms 14 

The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,

They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.

They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.

 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the Lord?

There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.

You shame the counsel of the poor,
But the Lord is his refuge.

Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

Signs

It began with a message about signs.  Everywhere there are signs.  I couldn’t get a popular song out of my head.  Signs, signs, everywhere there are signs.  But you have to look for them.  You have to recognize them.  You have to respond to them.

“Show them the signs,” rang loudly in my head.  I wasn’t sure what to do about it, so I waited and waited and waited.  I felt as though I was being moved towards something, but I wasn’t sure what that something was so I waited and listened for God to tell me what He wanted me to do.  

Slowly, He put people into my life who would help me show the signs.  Conversation after conversation, I heard the same word, orchestra.  Then it made sense.  The signs that are all around, the people in our lives; every conversation we have; the books we read; the songs we sing; every action we take; they are all individual notes within God’s Orchestra. 

You are God’s song.  As His people, we are called to be a praise and an honor before all the nations of the earth, by telling of all the good he has done unto us. 

“Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.” Jeremiah 33:9 

"It is written: 'I believed; therefore I have spoken.' With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak." 2 Corinthians 4:13

It is by our testimonies that we play music in God’s Orchestra.  It is my prayer that the testimonies shared here will remind you of (or perhaps introduce you for the first time to) our awesome God who is involved with every detail of your life.  He knew you in your mother’s womb.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 

  

The following is an example of God’s Orchestra in my own life.  

One morning several years ago during my prayer time, the Lord told me, "If you ask God 'Who, What, & Where?' he'll answer and GIVE you the 'When, Why, & How!'"

I thought, "Really God?" 

He knows I like to ask a LOT of questions, so He said, "Go ahead, and try it!"

Sure enough, I began to think of all the times I have asked God, "Who do you want me to minister to? What do you want me to do? Where do you want me to go?"

Next, I thought of specific incidences and quickly He brought to my remembrance the time He told me to, "Sell everything and move to Canada." 

At first, the "What" seemed scary, but was eventually replaced with excitement for a new adventure.  He told me "Where" but the "Who" wasn't for me to know, yet. He provided the "How,” and after I had been there a short time, the "Who" and "Why" emerged. 

A woman in an abusive relationship was put in my life.  She had vaguely heard about someone named Jesus, but had no clue who He was or what He had done for her.  Her parents died when she was young, and had raised her older brothers and sisters as atheists.  

After reading the Bible with her, we prayed and she asked Jesus to be her Savior.  She had a newborn and decided to leave the abusive relationship, and move across country.  She was so happy to know she could raise her daughter to know and love the Lord.  

Her life changed, dramatically; and I continue to be humbled by the experience of surrendering my will to His. 

As a postscript, I realize that it can be so easy to miss His leading for us.  For example, I am not supposed to only write and share this with others.  He's saying, "Deanna, don't miss it.  I have answers for you!" He is saying to you, too "Don't miss it!  I have answers for you.  Just ask me!"

Your body is your instrument; your life is your opus.

“for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’” Acts 17:28

You Are God's Opus

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 - New King James Version (NKJV) 

The word "workmanship" used in this verse in the original Greek is: ποίημα. Phonetically it is read as poiéma (poy'-ay-mah) and means "a work" according to Strong's Concordance. The short definition is "a thing made"
and a longer definition is "a thing made, a work, workmanship."

Poiéma comes from a primitive root word ποιέω which is read as poieó (poy-eh'-o) and means "to make, do." The short definition is "I do, make" and a longer definition is "(a) I make, manufacture, construct, (b) I do, act, cause."

This word is only used twice in the entire bible. The other instance is Romans 1:20
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse."

We are "the things that are made." We are "...His workmanship created in Christ..." to walk in the "...good works, which God prepared beforehand..."

Like the conductor of an Orchestra, He will direct us. Our life is our instrument but we have to choose whether or not we will play it. Whether or not we will let Him direct us.
