You Are Not Alone

God Hears You.

…And the man said, “I’ve missed you, God, it’s been four years.”
And God said, “I’ve missed you, too!”

My eyelids were closed and still too heavy to lift, as these words brought me to consciousness. Immediately, my mind began racing with questions. Is someone talking to me? Is the radio on? Am I dreaming?

As I wiped the sleep away and opened my eyes, I realized morning was on the horizon. My head was still foggy and full of sleep, so I closed my eyes again and tried to reconnect with the fading images that must have accompanied those words. I must have been dreaming!

My dream was a gentle, reassuring voice telling me a story. There were no images left. All that remained was the echo of those words; “…And the man said, ‘I’ve missed you, God, it’s been four years.’ And God said, ‘I’ve missed you, too!’”

Quickly jumping out of bed, I found a pen and scribbled those words onto a piece of paper. I didn’t want them to fade away along with the images.

Then, as if reading those words for the first time, I was struck by the reference of time by the man in the story. Four years. And then, I noticed that God’s response did not include an acknowledgement of time; only that He missed the man, too. From God’s point of view there is no confinement to time.

The man missed God four years and God was there – waiting for the man.

Almost instantly I wondered if I had written the words down correctly? Had I spelled them right? Had the missing been four years, or for years? Was He trying to tell me something?

God was there, waiting; waiting for the man. As soon as the man called out, God answered. God is still there waiting. He’s waiting for me; He’s waiting for you. All we have to do is call out.

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." - Jeremiah 33:3
